Help and FAQs! DVD Region Codes
This FAQ is valid for all DVD ReWriters, all Combo ReWriters and all DVD-ROMs.
|
| What is Region Playback Control (RPC)? |
Each DVD-Video disc contains one or more region codes, denoting the area[s] of the world in which distribution and playback are intended. The commercial DVD-Video player specification dictates that a player must only play discs that contain its region code. In theory, this allows the motion picture studios to control the various aspects of a release (including content, date and price) on a region-by-region basis.

| Do I have to worry about Region Playback Control (RPC)? |
No, normally, you will have no problems at all. This is only an issue for people buying DVD-Videos all over the world. As long as eg. a European citizen buys DVD-Video discs in Europe, you will never encounter problems.

| Which region code has my movie? |
Movies sold in a region do have the region code of that region (eg.: in Western Europe, all movies with a region setting will have region setting 2). To be sure, you can check on the disc. They will carry one of the logos below (although it might look a bit different...):
|
| Can I change the Region Setting? |
| Yes. Most drives will ask you which region code has to be used when inserting the first movie. After that, you can still change it 4 times, and the last setting will remain permanent and it can not be changed anymore.
