External Hard Disks

After using the 'Safe shutdown' button in Windows Vista, the drive's blue LED remains burning and it can not be accessed anymore by Windows Vista.
This is a confirmed bug in Vista, that is applicable for all USB peripherals (like USB sticks). There is not solution yet, but the issue has been addressed at Microsoft. You can restart the hard disk via the power button.

CarryItEasy™ closes immediately after starting up without any warning.
This problem is solved in CarryItEasy™ version 2.2.0.5
1. To minimize the risk of data loss, decrypt all data and remove the password protection function on your external hard disk drive before updating the software. Always keep an additional backup of your data to be completely secure.
You can do this by using Carry it Easy on a Windows Vista system with a Administrator account or on a Windows XP computer.
2. Download Carry it Easy™ version 2.2.0.5:
+ Direct download
3. Copy the new file carryiteasy.exe to your external hard disk, overwriting the installed version.
4. When you are confronted with the error window:
   Cososys
Enter the license key again:
  - If you already have a license key, please re-introduce it again in the Registration window
  - If your application is still in the trial period, please refer to CoSoSys Customer Support to receive a license key for a trial period continuation:

Registering CarryItEasy™ on Windows Vista fails with this error message:
Cososys
The solution is the same as the question above.

My PC does not start anymore when my big external hard disk (above 500 GB) is attached via the USB port.
Some motherboards do not recognize the 750GB and 1TB drive during startup when it's connected via USB, and then the computer does not boot. This has been seen in several Asus (and other) motherboards. This problem has not yet been found when using the eSATA connection. The cause is bug in the PC bios.
Solution 1: Check for a bios update for your PC.
Solution 2: Use the eSata connection when you have an eSata connection on your PC.
Solution 3: Disconnect the external hard disk from your PC until windows has started.
